Benidorm celebrates the 629th anniversary of its Town Charter with a week of activities commencing on the 5th of May until the following Saturday 9th May.
The week of cultural events will honour the anniversary of the Town Charter which was granted to the village by Admiral Bernat de Sarria.
This year’s celebration will also recognise the academic Pere Maria Ort I Bosch, an author of various books on the Town Charter, who died recently and who is also responsible for the current text of the Charter.
Programme of events
The events begin on the 5th of May at 20:30 in the Casa del Fester with the opening of an Exhibition dedicated to “ Women’s role in traditional Benidorm Culture from 1940 – 1980”.
On Wednesday the Musical Union will hold a concert with their Orchestra and choir in the Town Hall.
Thursday at 20:30 there will be a screening of the video “Pere Maria Orts i Bosch” , a documentary filmed in his Valencian home, which talks about his connections with the Valencian Museum of Fine Arts, the Valencian Academy of Language and the Valencian Library as well as interviewing many people who knew him personally.
Friday at 12:00 there will be a council meeting to celebrate this important day for Benidorm which will be followed by the opening of the Medieval Market located in the Parque de Elche.
Lastly on Saturday there will be an enactment of the granting of the Town Charter by the Admiral Bernat de Sarria which will be held in the Church of St Jaime & Sta Ana at 21:30 hours.
